Hooligans coming to Japan for World Cup 2002
British artist wants to get rid of Hooligans
British artist Richard Jefferies offers for sale in Japan,
for the first time anywhere, paintings from his private
Hooligan Collection. All the most ferocious aspects of hooligan
behaviour are depicted within the five paintings, documenting this
culture and its violence. In this series, the depictions of Otto
Dix and George Grosz of violence in day-to-day life served as a
major source of inspiration to Jefferies, who spends time regularly
in Berlin. 'Lustmord' it may not be, but 'Lustkampf' it certainly
is. But let the work speak for itself.
